The Sandwich Recreation Department in conjunction with the Sandwich Partnership For Families brings you this FREE unique sports and play program focusing on fun activities important to mental and physical growth. This program is an early introduction to sports in the world of Special Olympics.

Sports physicals need updating…

As we gear up for our new sports season many of our athletes will need their sports physicals updated.  This is a great time to remind you of our continued relationship with MinuteClinic who has provided an opportunity for all U.S. Special Olympics Athletes to receive the Special Olympics sports physical at a reduced rate of $44 (typically $79).  Over 275 athletes from around the country have taken advantage of this opportunity and hopefully many more can benefit.   See list of participating locations here or on the CVS MinuteClinic and Target MinuteClinic websites.

No insurance or appointment is needed.

Sandwich Rec. Dept. will want to see proof of your physical when you register. See Registration link below…

We are pleased to announce the Sandwich Community Special Olympics program: the “Sandwich Sailors.” This program is driven by Special Olympics Mass., Cape & Islands Region, with the Sandwich Recreation Department, the Sandwich Student Council, and the National Honor Society. Through the efforts of the Sandwich Recreation Department, we have had a young athletes program that is designed for children with intellectual disabilities from 2-8 years old. Our new program will be for individuals from 8 years old through adulthood.

Special olympics athletes are never charged fees to participate in activities. However, it costs Special Olympics Massachusetts $390 per participant for their uniforms, transportation, and facility fees. We are proud to tell you that all funds raised in our community support our local athletes.

Our goal is to provide individuals with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to participate in seasonal sports, with a chance to take part in Special Olympics Cape & Islands and state tournaments. We want our “athletes” to compete individually and when needed with student volunteers.

Our sports offerings include: soccer, bowling, track & field, and basketball.

In order to provide a quality program, we are asking for a financial donation that will help defray expenses in buying sports equipment, uniforms, travel, and a “pizza party” at the end of the sports season.

Contact Megan Hoffman, AVP Development, with any questions, at:

megan.hoffman@special olympicsma.com or call her at 508-385-0986.

Remember all community funds raised support our local athletes.

Any dollar amount donated is greatly appreciated!
